Geeta Phogat, a retired Indian wrestler, was born on December 15, 1988, in the Indian hamlet of Balali, in the state of Haryana. She has won several more medals and honours during her career and is the first Indian woman wrestler to earn a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Freestyle wrestler Phogat has earned a gold medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games as well as two gold medals at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in 2009 and 2011. She also took home bronze and silver medals from the 2010 Asian Wrestling Championships and the 2012 World Wrestling Championships, respectively.

Geeta Phogat was coached by her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat, who is a well-known wrestling instructor and hails from a line of wrestlers. The Bollywood film "Dangal," which follows the development of her father and his daughters, including Geeta Phogat, become great wrestlers, has a depiction of her life.

Geeta Phogat has received a number of accolades in addition to her athletic accomplishments. She has received the renowned Arjuna Award, one of India's top athletic distinctions, and the Padma Shri Award, one of the country's highest civilian honours.

Geeta Phogat retired from competitive wrestling in 2019 but continues to be an inspiration to many young wrestlers, especially girls, in India. She has been a role model for breaking stereotypes and promoting gender equality in sports
